Subject: You said any question--can I train on a stationary bike until
I get my old faithfuls (one very old Univega touring and one newish Trek mountain bike--I'm doing this on the cheap to start...)tuned up?

that saddle time.  as much as u can.  i would, at the very least, make sure u get a bike a few months before your first tri.  u have till next year right?  so may as well train on the stationary through the winter.

I agree with Ron, I would also suggest that you get out and ride just to get your bike handling skills fine tuned. After training on a trainer, my bike always feels a little awkward.

Without a doubt! But stationary bikes tend to have a resistance that feels much different than a real bike. Keep the resistance on the lighter side and your RPMS at 80-100 (a pace that is referred to in tri-talk as "spinning) and you'll be fine.
