Subject: Not sure what to do, please help!
Hello, I am training for IM KY and I'm 6 weeks out. I have really been focusing on the bike and I have really been putting some time in on it. Because my long rides have been on Sunday's and have been Century rides for the last 5 weeks, I have felt my legs getting really tired for my runs. I have even been missing my long runs for the last 2 weeks because of fatigue. I have tried massages even skipping 3 or 4 days of working out to rest my legs but after one or two workouts they are back to me not being able to run 6 miles without fatigue setting in. This is my 2nd IM, I didn't train half as hard as I am for this one and felt in much better shape.

Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks,

Damon

Define "fatigue" as you are using it.

Any chance you could do your long run in the middle of the week instead of on a day immediately preceding or following your long bike?

Why do you have to walk? Do you feel light-headed? Dizzy? Nauseous? Legs just don't feel like moving? 80% of what?

How much are you eating? Sleeping? Drinking?

You need to be really honest with yourself and look at your training, your food intake, your sleep, and everything else. Skipping training 6 weeks out is not the way to do it. You're either training too much, too hard, or you are not recovering properly. The third option is that you've mentally blown up and you quit too soon. I hope it's 1 or 2, because 3 will knock you out for extended periods of time until you can get your head and rear end wired up straight again.

I tried to switch it to Wednesday to help but same results. I think, maybe I am poor shape but if I don't workout for 3 or 4 days and try and run, it's fine. Ughh! Frustrating

Thanks

Thank you for the advice, It has been a really challenging 14 weeks, I hope it's not three either. It is definitely a moral killer to be 6 weeks out sacrifice so much for training and not be able to run 10 miles without walking after the amount of hours put in.

I have a buddy who does IM says to wash the long stuff from now on so my legs recover and just do 30 mile bikes followed by 6 mile runs for the last month of training, whats your thoughts? I was looking online and researched "overtraining symptoms" but I am praying that I am just tired.

80% of my LT for me its about 158

Thanks for taking the time,

Damon

Not sure where you live, but have you considered that the heat and himidity might be affecting your running and HR?

Since the heat wave hit in Texas I have gone from running 13.1 miles @ a 9:30 mm. To barely able to run past 3 miles without walking. I actually madeit 9 miles, only walking aid stations, yesterday and had a 11 mm. And it was work.

Otherwise, sometimes in Ironman training you just have to suck it up. Which means you finish your long run with a walk/run, instead of bailing on it. Good luck!
