Just registered to do the DQ Tri for Autism in Belmar this Sunday (sprint distance).  Getting some conflicting info on water temps.  I'm seeing online ocean temps between 70-80.  I've never used a wetsuit.  Other than keeping you warm what's the pros vs. cons of wearing one?

First things first - don't wear one for the first time in a race. Remember nothing new on race day, let alone something that constricts you in a washing machine

Pros - added buoyancy more streamlined in the water

Cons - you need to wait for race to start with in on (in the heat) and take it off in transition

I would seriously not recommend wearing one for the first time in a race.

A wetsuit will also make you faster.  But as the other poster said, don't bother this time.  Save it for the Oly distance.

mid-60s? In a normal year. Water temps have to be in the high-60s or most likely low-70s with the heat and lack of rain this year. It has been a crazy summer!

You will be fine without a wetsuit, and I agree that you shouldnt wear one if you are not used to one. The general rule if you had one, and were used to it....is to wear it when legal (water temp of 78.0 degrees and below).
