How does it feel to be a chicken Megan Laughing. I'm sure youll get back on track soon enough. Oh by the way I'm still here too. Today I decided to see how far I could swim with no stopping. Too make sure I could cover the olympic distance triathlon I plan on doing in September. Apparently I can but I dont know if I can do it in the time allowed. I guess there is time for improvement now just get working on it. I also learned today that my baby girl can go swimming with daddy at the same as I'm training. They have a little kids pool right beside the pool. Where parent and baby/toddler can go well swim for $2.50. This is great, so we got our little one some little swimmers and a little bathing suit. Mini triathlete in training Tongue out. Well probably not but hey its good to get her out there anyway

I participated in my first triathlon on Saturday, well in my case, Aquabike, it didn't compete in the run event due a 2 1/2 week old sprained ankle. I was bummed that I couldn't compete in the entire race, but what a experience! My next race is coming up on April 12th and I am hopeful that my ankle will be strong enough to compete then.

Congrats on the  Aquabike! the big thing is you went out and did what you could do safely. hope you had fun. you can always learn, the ankle will heal and then you can go all out.

Hey Jacyln - CONGRATS! on doing the race. I'm sorry about the ankle, but good for you for doing what you could! I'm jealous.

I'm still here. I ran for the first time outside this week (I have a cabin in Western WI which is why I'm usually not on during the weekends ) It was hard... hills to go up and down - plus I'm trying to maintain an 10 minute pace which is more than I did when I started training on the treadmill. But I did it and I'm very delighted to have been outside.... finally.

My goal for this week: I built a training program with the custom feature at BT and my goal is make it through with a 10 min pace on the runs, a 16 mph on the bike and a 2 min / 100 yd on the swim.

I have another question for everyone... I'm having a terrible time counting laps when I swim, so I was going to look for some kind of counter tool. Does anyone use a triathlon watch? can you use it to just count laps? Or some other tool? I find that I do ok for the first 500 yds - and then I just drift off and can't remember what lap I'm on.

Thanks!

Mary

Good news! my head has been handed back to me, its just not attached.

via, I just got the call, I will be heading to Iraq in 45 days or so. (OK, no pulling mom freak out now) (I am going to a relatively safe location, I even have a gym in my work complex!) and it looks like I can still run my half marathon! It will be the deployed location, but its still sanctioned! Oh and there's a pool so I can still swim, I will just have to do the indoor spin bike, but not bad for a tri training location!

Megan, Hope you have a safe deployment. I have family in Iraq right now and my husband is probably heading there in May. What branch are you in?

Oh wow well I'm glad you found your head back Jaclyn. Hope your deployment goes well. I'm not from a military family but appreciate what everyone of you are trying to do for us. I cant believe you have all that available at the base thats kinda nice. Let us know about this tri experience and how things are going.

Counting laps in the pool is easy if you bring an object that you leave at the end of the pool. Say you bring a water bottle. I do sometimes for a long workout. Now if your lucky enough youll get your own lane. Not likely.Say your swimming 1000 m Imagine the middle of the lane as you 500 meter mark and move your bottle accordingly per hundred meter. Once the water bottle is all the way accross you know your done. another way is by putting a mark on set water bottle and turning it in a circle once the line is back to the same spot as you began you are done your work out. Yes I am cheap, but it works for me. Goodluck bakerswife.

Hi Nickhi - I'm still here. Just plugging away, so not much to offer I guess. How are you doing? Is your running going better?

They've opened up some new mentor groups, so I think I'm switching to a slightly bigger group - I hope everyone does GREAT this year! And good luck to everyone.

Thanks for all the good advice~

hello all.

well with my up coming trip, I've decided to go all out and run the full air force marathon! found an 18 week plan that i will start the first week of may. went to a nice run shop in Norfolk VA this week and got fitted for new shoes. found a pair of brooks I liked, and got a mil discount to boot.

so any extra advice on going for the big run?

not sure when the run is other than in Sept, its a deployed location so i should find out the date in June.

hope all is going well
