Subject: Power Meter vs. Star Trac Bikes
I have not trained with a power meter before, however, it seems to be a great training tool. Well, the gym I attend has quite a few Star Trac stationary bikes that allow you to train in Constant Watts and Interval Watts. I'm not one to use a stationary, but I do wonder are there is any advantages or similarities compared to a power meter for an indoor trainer. What are your thoughts on this?

Thanx,

David

David,  I would say there is no advantage to using the star trac system over using your bike on a stationary trainer with a power meter.  Nothing beats the real thing IMO.  The similarity would be that you are training consistently.  Many "power workouts" have you doing a set of spinning at a certain power for a predetermined amount of time.  Done properly I would think you could do the same using that star trac bike.  It's probably similar to the cycle-ops bikes that some use for indoor training.
