I am very new at the TRI thing......I have a road bike (Cannondale CAAD 8).  What about a wet suit for the OWS? Most people wear them i am assuming.  I am 6'8" and 320.  I found this one at REI and with my member rebate it would cost me about $10.  What do you guys think of this one?   http://www.rei.com/product/813082

I am not familiar with the Camaro brand but, in general, you should always wear a wetsuit when they are allowed.  They will help you to be more buoyant, which allows you to swim with less energy.  The fact that this suit is sleeveless will mean that you are less restricted with upper body movement, which can be a plus.  (I have both a full-sleeve and sleeveless and wear the sleeveless more often as it's more comfortable.)  The full-sleeve are considered to be faster but if your movement is restricted the benefit of sleeves is more than negated.

Good luck and let us know how the wetsuit works out!

I'm considerably shorter than you and 280lbs.  I found one for $55.00 at swimoutlet.com in their clearance section.  I should receive it today.  Will update with fit it's an XXL..

I also bought an XXL tri suit (Louis Gerneau) there and it fits GREAT!  $95.00

If you really meant Ten Dollars, then there's no reason not to get one.

Otherwise, if you're new to triathlon, I'd say save your money for now.  Unless you're doing a very cold water swim in a race you're planning, you're better off waiting to get one.  I went all last year without one (my first year in tri).  Raced mostly in water in the low 70s with no problems.  I've swam in water in the low 60s without a wetsuit and survived just fine.

If it fits good and you can get it for that price I say do it if you are planning to keep at this sport.   When I was looking for one last year I found that a lot of companies that make the swimming  wet suits just don't seem to know that that the clydesdale division exists.  Remember, it will give a little once it is wet and you want it to be somewhat tight.  I struggled with that mentally a little at first.

I am a 6'1"and 270lbs and have been struggling with the wetsuit issue myself. Last year I rented one from a place online and the only thing they had that would fit me was a diving suit by Akona. This led me to believe that a normal tri wetsuit in my size just wasn't out there.

The rental place is telling me I need to get down to 240-250 before then can send me a real tri wetsuit. I would love to hear if anyone has found something that would fit someone my size as the diving wetsuit works for floatation but does not offer the freedom of movement that I think a tri wetsuit does. (Based on looking at them in the store).

@bluecougee

I just purchased a two piece De Soto First Wave tri wetsuit.  I have 6'5" 265 and it fits like a glove.  This is my first year for tri and was told due to my size it would be better to spend a bit more and get a high end suit as compared to the entry level wetsuits.  I am wearing the size 7.  It is something to look into.

Looking for a wetsuit too.  Any update on the REI product? Price is a concern for me given all the other things I would like to get to feed this new desire.  I have not decided on sleves or not.

What other suggestions do you have.  I am not as big as some of you.  Im 6'2" 215-220lbs with 46" chest and large thighs.

Thanks in advance

I just received my Xterra Vortex 3 sleeveless wetsuit on Saturday.  Fits like a gem and I'm 6'3" 270.
