Subject: Cycling...Pain in the butt?
I've developed some serious pain in my sit bone area from riding this winter. It almost feels like my sit bone is bruised or something. This has been going on for several months now. Some days are Better than others. I ride three days per week for 1-2 hrs. I originally thought that it would go away after a month from the increased off season frequency. However, that has not been the case. I had a retul fit today and he said I have a decent saddle and height/position are good. Anyone else ever deal with this? And, how did u get rid of it?

Same issue here - would love to hear if anyone else has "fixed" this.

Well mine did go away eventually.

Some seats have more flex than others, and the more you weigh, the more pressure is on you, causing more grief.    My seat has quite a bit of flex to it, it's around a $300 seat.  Once I started incorporating thick padded bike shorts, and lost 30 pounds as well as got used to it, the pains all went away.

Now I'vm starting from scratch after 6 months off due to a broken femur, and even with the good seat and shorts, 20 minutes is causing me grief today, time to lose the 30 lbs ( again ) and get used to it again!

Someone else may have better information, but that was my experience.  I'd play with a new seat, extra padding, and trying to lose weight overall ( unless of course you're already fairly light )

So you're saying my junk in the trunk is a pain in the butt? Just kidding.

Sounds probable. I have been doing the bulk of my riding in tri shorts (very little padding) and am a bit on the heavier side...a new bike is in the cards for me in the next couple of months - I'll look into the saddles at that point. Which saddle do you like?

I honestly can't tell you what the actual model is, but it's made by fi'zik.

The importand thing is to play around with a few seats and find the most comfortable one for you, sometimes the ones with extra padding and extra flex in them will help the most.

Definitely ask around at the local bike shop when looking at new seats, sometimes you can get a deal swapping them out at the same time purchasing the bike
