It may seem strange but I actually enjoy running more when I am running faster. There's more sweating and huffing/puffing, which I hate, but I think my body has a minimum threshold for endorphins to get released. Above a certain point, I start feeling like superman.

6'3 220 lbs. The secret to running is to start reasonably and then be consistent. I have been doing tri's for 4 years with decent success. Running is my least effective leg now, it used to be swimming. I found the BarryP plan on slowtwitch. I am following that and it has made me a much better runner, which makes me a happier runner, which helps me enjoy running. The program consists of running units of 1,2,3. The units can be time or mileage - just pick one. The running speed is sloooww. You should run slow enough to hold a conversation. To begin take your current weekly mileage or time and divide it by 10. This will be you 1 unit. In week one you go 2,1,2,1,3,1 and get 1 day off. Stay at this until it is comfortable. When it is boost the 1 by 10%, then its 2 times that and 3 time that. Rinse repeat over & over. This month my mileage will be 150.

By running slow & easy you minimize aches & pains and recovery issues. Consistency trumps speed training. By running slow I have gotten FASTER. It works. For more info about my training click the blog link below.

Running less than 230 lbs, love it!

Running at current weight (265) hate it!

When I was that thin I was running all the time, in shape, and body was conditioned to 20-25 miles a week. Now that I have been sedentary, it is hard as hell but I will get back there!

The more you run the easier it will become. Just don't over do it, build gradually.
