Subject: RE: Any Clyde Actually LIKE Running? 6'3 220 lbs. The secret to running is to start reasonably and then be consistent. I have been doing tri's for 4 years with decent success. Running is my least effective leg now, it used to be swimming. I found the BarryP plan on slowtwitch. I am following that and it has made me a much better runner, which makes me a happier runner, which helps me enjoy running. The program consists of running units of 1,2,3. The units can be time or mileage - just pick one. The running speed is sloooww. You should run slow enough to hold a conversation. To begin take your current weekly mileage or time and divide it by 10. This will be you 1 unit. In week one you go 2,1,2,1,3,1 and get 1 day off. Stay at this until it is comfortable. When it is boost the 1 by 10%, then its 2 times that and 3 time that. Rinse repeat over & over. This month my mileage will be 150. By running slow & easy you minimize aches & pains and recovery issues. Consistency trumps speed training. By running slow I have gotten FASTER. It works.
