Run
  • 22m 37s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

First run was rather uneventful. I'm not a fan of long warmups because when people overdo them, I think they defeat the purpose. I decided to race exactly like I did last year. I moved to the front of the pack for the start and then started slow and let everyone fly past me. I was fully aware that the man running next to me in khaki shorts was running well beyond himself and I fully intended NOT to be like him. I let myself get into my rhythm and then started to reel people in. My pacing was pretty even as I had hoped. I knew that I couldn't afford to blaze this run because there would be much more hurt to follow.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I did the best I could within the day and executed my plan well.
Transition 1
  • 00m 40s
Comments:

Transition was a little slow because when I removed my shoes, I made sure to flatten out the soles of my Zoots because they like to stick to my sweaty feet and I didn't want to have to deal with that later. Everything else went smoothly. I used rubber bands on my shoes which worked out great! I think Ill do that fro now on.
Bike
  • 32m 16s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 23.06 mile/hr
Comments:

As per my goal, I absolutely HAMMERED the bike. I planned the first run accordingly. I started out at a decent clip and felt great but I was wondering why everyone was going so slow. I decided to get into a better position an hammered past some people. I was then surprised by how great I felt still and decided to hammer past another few people. After that my mind was made up. My goal for the remainder of the bike split would be CONSTANT ACCELERATION. I hammered like I had never hammered before. I didn't just reel people in, I FLEW past them. I remember racing and having people blow past me and thinking "WOW! That dude is wicked fast!" and today I was finally that guy. I was blowing past people like they weren't even moving. I took no prisoners, didn't waste energy on corners, and never looked back. I ended up with the 10th fastest bike split of the day.
What would you do differently?:

Absolutely nothing.
Transition 2
  • 00m 31s
Comments:

Fast transition and everything went according to plan. Didn't wast time at all.
Run
  • 21m 40s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

for the most part, the second run was about the same as the first, just a little faster and much more painful. Some guys I blew past on the bike passed me out of transition and I didn't catch them. The eventual women's winner blew past me not long into the 2nd run and I passed the women's 2nd place finisher with about 1 mile left. For the most part, I was alone for this loop which was actually the best thing. It allowed me to enjoy it and run as fast as I could without worrying about catching or being caught. I could hear someone catching me with about half a mile left and if my memory is correct, I held him off from then on.
Post race
Warm down:

Lay down in the grass per usual :D

What limited your ability to perform faster:

past two weeks of no running prior to race.

Event comments:

Great race by 3d. They are definitely getting better and they gave away some great prices after the race. I just wish I would have won something!
