Subject: Wetsuit that is too big or no wetsuit?
I have a sprint tri on Saturday. This is my second sprint; I've also done two Olys. The water temp will be 68-70. I've swam in open water a lot and am not concerned about not finishing. My only options right now are to rent a wetsuit that is too big, buy a wetsuit (would rather wait, get a good deal, etc), or not use one. Would you swim in the one too big or go without? The one I can rent is a size 9: 5'11"-6'4", 187-210#. I am 5'10" and weigh 165. What is the better thing to do? I am thinking at this point I will just get in the water early and warm up a lot instead of water filling up the suit.

Thanks guys!

That's probably the best best...I wouldn't even want to chance being a blimp full of water (at least I think that's what happens when the suit is too big especially in the upper body).

I agree that you should go without one.  I've been windsurfing in an oversized suit before, and when you get water in the suit, it doesn't come back out until you take the suit off.  And a suit full of water doesn't make things easier (and all I had to do was swim back to my board a few times)

Go without.  A too big suit will fill with water, and that will drag you down.  Wetsuits need to fit right otherwise they cause more problems then they'll solve.

You'll be fine.  Get a good warm-up and once the gun goes off you won't be thinking about cold water.  A gollon of water weighs 8 lbs...no sense in dragging all that extra weight around with you.  Besides, the cold might motivate you to swim faster so you can get out sooner
