Signed up today, never done it before. Anyone with past experience at this race? Any advice?

All I know is there is some wicked hills on the run and the water temp in the middle of July in Lake Norman is better suited to cooking shrimp than swimming ;-)

I will see you there!

Great! It'll be nice to have some BT company. I'll be the guy struggling to stay with the MOP.

Lots of parking, easy to find.  TA is laarge and easy to navigate.

Swim: a little difficult to see buoys last year; water was warm but not overly so.

Bike: rolling hills to mile 10, flat-ish mile 10-20, rolling hills last 5.  One or two "steep" climbs towards the end.  Road surfaces are good from what I can remember.

Run: toughest part of the race, technical first mile into neighborhood, rolling climbs throughout with one long, sustained climb towards the end of each lap.  Downhill to finish/lap 2.

It's a good race, you won't be disappointed.

A lot of good advice already but the run is the toughest part. Rolling hills with a long sustained climb each lap on the run. It's a fun race...

I decided to sign up for this one as a lower-priority training race. I need some good hilly runs in my schedule...

I'll be the FOP cyclist with way-BOP run and swim. Listen for my new Zipps when you're out on the bike, and then say hi to me again when you pass me on the run.

Maybe you should slow down on the bike and make yourself a MOP runner.

2 sayings to live by:

1) bike for show, run for dough

2) there's no such thing as a good bike split followed by a bad run split

True, but I don't really think it's so much a fitness/burning all the matches issue. My technique and efficiency have just historically been much better on the bike. My running form has been anything but efficient, but I've been working on that quite a bit. We'll see this season.
