Thinking about Bath county tri.

They advertise that it has always been "wetsuit legal" a friend of mine did it last year and she said that last year it was not wetsuit legal.

Anyone know what is the real story?

I've done Bath County twice, including last year.  As your friend said, it was not wetsuit legal last year.  If I remember correctly, it got pretty hot early last year - the temperature was right at the border for wetsuits and was just over on race day.  I think they probably need to change the wording on their event write up to say something like "it is usually wetsuit legal".  Bath County follows USAT rules - if it's over 78, it's not wetsuit legal.

It is a great race - highly recommended - probably my favorite venue.  Beautiful lake swim, hilly bike ride (roads are closed which I love) and a pretty hilly run (tough hill right out of T2).  Lake Moomaw is a great setting for a tri.

Mike

I did this last year and loved it.  I was expecting to wear a wetsuit but last year most definitely was warmer than most springs.  Took the family to camp the night before and after.  Spent a bunch of time swimming w/ the kids at the beach.  The course is cool and the food afterwards was good.  The scenery is great.

Now that Bath Co. is less than a week away, I'm trying to get a heads up on the water temp and whether it will be wetsuit legal. Anyone know how to find out what the current water temp is?

I googled it, but didn't have any luck.

Thanks.

From the weather forecast it'll be close, but my guess is it will be wetsuit legal.

i'd plan for both.  last year was too warm for wetsuits, around 79 IIRC.  seems like equivalent or warmer weather this year so i'd expect about the same.  i thought it was surprisingly warm considering the location and being at the upper end of the lake (river really).

This afternoon's update from SetupEvents website:

"The water temperature as of 3PM Thursday is 76F. Looks like it is going to be wetsuit legal folks!"

What a great day for the race up in Bath Co yesterday!  I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did.  Beautiful venue, roads closed, great food afterwards.  This will be on my calendar every year.
