Subject: Continue swimming or do riding?

Hey all, My name is Bryce and I have been training for the past 3-4 months joined BT for a month or two. Over the past 3-4 months I have realised I am a really strong swimmer (top 2/3 in the club) but a not so strong rider (mid pack)..I have only one question for you should I change my training for swimming and riding from a 3:3 per week ratio to a 2:4 ratio to improve further quickly or should I continue the path that i am doing?

FYI, I have done some swimming training in my school days and water polo too, but basically no rding before these four months...

I think most will agree, in general, we should train on our weaknesses more than our strengths. Sometimes that's hard to do since we usually enjoy our strengths more.

2:4 at least. Maybe even 1:5 every other week or every couple weeks. Basically, whatever the least amount is that will maintain your swim fitness at a level acceptable to you.

Remember that in almost all triathlons, the bike segment takes up the lion's share of time on the course.

Welcome to BT

Depends on your goals... If you're in this for fun and fitness, do whatever is most fun and motivating for you. If you're looking for a faster triathlon time, then focus more on the bike than the swim. FWIW, I can maintain a pretty consistent level of swimming fitness on pretty minimal swimming.... not so much with biking and even less so with running. It sounds like you're a very strong swimmer, and my guess is you don't "need" a lot of time in the pool. Proportionally, the importance of the swim in triathlon is much less than bike and run. You have more to gain in overall finish time by putting more effort into your bike (and possibly run - you didn't mention anything about your run pace....).
