Yesterday, a good friend told me about a gentleman that is walking a 6 mile round trip to work, at Home Depot, each day. She was asking if I had an old bike I could give to him. I do not, so I am throwing it out to the masses here. He is around 5'9", so if you have an old bike that is just gathering dust I will take it off your hands. Even if it needs a little work, I am willing to put a few bucks into it to make it rideable. Thanks.

It's awesome that you are doing this Craig.

If no one comes up with a bike pretty quick, could we do a Texas BT "fundraiser" via paypal or something to buy him a bike and helmet?  I am sure the "big box" stores like Target, Walmart, Academy would have an appropriate bike for this kind of transportation for relatively cheap.

Obviously, a free bike is the best kind of bike, but if that doesn't work out I'll donate to a new bike fund for the guy.

I've got a cheap Walmart/Costco "mountain" bike that I can give away if you cant find anything else.  It's a pretty heavy bike, so I would recommend trying to find a better bike first, but I'll be glad to give it to you guys.

I don't have one to donate, but I would also like to mention that a free helmet would certainly be appropriate to go with the bike.  I am going to send an email to a friend at the local bike shop to see if they have either a bike or helmet they would donate.

Hey Craig, I'm working on this. I sent a message out to our neighborhood group and I have an extra helmet that I can provide. I do have a local contact with WalMart up in the Decatur area, but I thought I would wait to see if anyone responds in our neighborhood first.

Found a bike! A neighbor came through. Said it needs new tubes and maybe tires, but otherwise in good condition.

If you need someone to turn a wrench to tune it up, let me know. I also have some misc. parts laying around depending if it's a MTB or road bike.
