Event warmup:

A couple short runs (quarter mile each), a few short swims to get used to the water.
Swim
  • 17m 4s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt very comfortable. Wind made for a little chop. No trouble breathing. Slighty off course a time or two, but I caught it early.
What would you do differently?:

Use a wetsuit? That won't fix all my swimming issues, but it could help a little.
Transition 1
  • 02m 32s
Comments:

No trouble, went smoothly. 6th fastest T1. Time must include the run from the beach to transition.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 57m 26s
  • 20.7 miles
  • 21.63 mile/hr
Comments:

Went well. More challenging than the average bike segment in this area. Realized how hilly it was after the first 5 miles. Legs burning a little so I backed off a bit on the inclines. Felt alone in spots. Wondered if I missed a turn once or twice.
What would you do differently?:

I could be a little more aggressive on the turns now that I'm a little more familiar with the course.
Transition 2
  • 00m 45s
Comments:

A cul-de-sac T2. Enter and leave from the same end. Get there early to get a rack close that end and you could save a little time. 20th fastest T2, but I was on the last rack...
What would you do differently?:

I racked the bike in the wrong spot initially. Need to leave something unique that's easy to spot. This is consistently a problem this year!
Run
  • 24m 10s
  • 3.35 miles
  • 07m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

Website says it was 3.6 miles for a 6:43 pace. I got my mile splits from my watch and there's no way I ran 6:43. I think it's probably more like 3.35 miles. I could believe a 7:13 pace. Took a water bottle along on the run. 1 drink station at the 0 and 1.7 mile mark. Negative splits.
What would you do differently?:

Think about how to up the pace a little faster at the beginning of the run. Higher cadence at the end of the bike?
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not fully recovered from a cold/sore throat issue.
Could buy a wetsuit.
Hesitation on the bike coarse.
1st half of the run too slow compared to second half.
I could probably drop a couple pounds.

Event comments:

Fun coarse. $12! Definitely hoping to fit in another Wednesday night event this season.

Course: Fun course. Lots of hills, lots of turns. Several really fast downhills. Basically a big loop around the lake. Roads were mostly traffic free, except for a couple miles on 73. Roads generally in good shape, only a few short rough stretches. Worst part was the turn back onto 73 westbound back to the park. There's not much shoulder and the road is pretty rough and cracked. And that's a busy road. No police, etc to slow/warn traffic, but I still felt safe. Some turns were hard to see around due to trees/woods, so I definitely held back a bit.

Good job!  Hope to see you at another one of these.  I'm definitely glad I found out about these races.

I agree on the run course.  Oddly enough, my Garmin agreed with the mile markers they had out on the run course exactly, but the total distance I had was only 3.35 miles.

Thanks. I'm planning to show up on June 29th for #3. I was wondering what a Garmin would say about the run. Do you find a lot of other tri run courses are a little short? I've frequently had that impression at various races, but since I don't yet have GPS it's just a guess.
