I was in the 3rd wave so I'm not sure what happened to the lead males, but the details I got were that the cops left the turnaround and a bunch of people went too far, while a bunch also turned around too early. Where was the turnaround supposed to be?! Was it where the lady was standing in the middle of the road or was it at the intersection with the cops?

I think it was supposed to be at the turnaround where the lady was.  There was a lead group of 4 riders that turned at the right spot and then I think a bunch (including me) rode all the way to 510-Wabasso.  I ended up riding 16.4 miles.  Not sure how in the world they are going to address it, but it's a mess.  They fixed the problems they had last year, but added new ones!

I was wondering about that as well.  When I got home and looked at my watch it also read 16.4!!  I too wondered where the cops were and why we were doing a U-Turn near oncoming traffic?  So it now appears that there might be some discrepancies with the times posted.  Wow.. what a mess..

The race survey's are out and I wrote my $.02 regarding the poor signs on the bike course and the fact that some of use traveled 16.4 vs. 15.   So if you guys are interested in voicing your opinion and providing a review, here's the link to the survey:

This whole race series has been a mess.  I can't believe he is placing the blame on the Indian River Sheriff for the screw up.  Everyone shouldn't have even made it that far!  If the course was properly marked and if there was a volunteer at the turnaround.

I will never compete in a race that this race organizer is associated with ever again.

I just got back from a trip and read about this in the paper.  Read like they tried to spin it without it being a clusterf@$#%. "Matters were less cut-and-dry for Seinkner, the 40-44 men's winner who led all males in points with 55 and who was caught with other high-level competitors in a mix-up at a turn in the bicycle race, later corrected by race officials."

What a bad deal for all those that went long, can't imagine as a RD how this could be allowed to happen.  RD it's your race, your responsibility.

"Can't wait" for the SCT Battle of the Bridges race in Oct...

Battle of the Bridges (formerly known as Health First Tri) is run by different people who actually know what they're doing. They don't use the same race organizer (Varnes) or the same race director (Alta Vista...although I somehow doubt this was their fault, since they just do what they're paid to do). I actually like that race a lot, and I'm upset that it doesn't fit into my IM training plan this year. I might do my long run down to the race to watch, though.

Yup know that, I wasn't implying it was same org that put on BoTB (hence  "SCT") sorry for any confusion.

What IM are you doing?  Sounds like a perfect volunteer op! Wink

I gotcha. Long day...brain is tired.

I'm doing IMFL, so training just started. Also doing the Amelia Island half as a tune-up race. I've heard great things about that one.

You have no idea how long my day (heck weekend) has been, I'm fried!

I wanted to Amelia Island last year, or maybe it was in 09, but it didn't work out for me.  I've also heard a lot of good things about that event.

Happy training!

So I got my award in the mail on Friday.  Looks like the race director decided he wasn't going to do anything about trying to find out the right times and make adjustments to the results.  So, instead of saying anything to that effect on race day they should have just recognized everyone at the awards ceremony.  Weird, weird situation???
