Comments:

First time in the open water all season and am very happy with my performance. I think I probably pushed a bit harder than my fitness, but in an olympic I'm still able to overcome that.

Was towards the front of my wave so I didn't have many feet in front of me to keep with. Most of the work was done on my own.
What would you do differently?:

Not much
Transition 1

Comments:

Decently long run to transition, and then the olympic bikes were farther away past the sprint bikes. Was very close to bike out and bike in, but hard to get to after the swim.

Comments:

The course is actually fairly scenic country area with a few moderate hills, nothing too bad. I pushed it fairly hard but didn't wear my HRM so I realized it was hard for me to tell how hard I was working.

The other race reports I read were dead on. This bike gets very congested and that can be slightly dangerous for the first few miles. There's a shoulder that most people bike on, but if you're passing people it's hard to do that on the shoulder.

PR!!!

Honestly, I didn't eat anything on the bike and started to feel it at the beginning of the run. Pulled together some damage control and pounded a gel and gatorade right away.

The run course is scenic as most of it is along the lake which is really pretty. At the turn-around you have to run up a fairly long hill. It's not crazy steep, but it goes on forever and it's not at a great place if you are feeling bad.

Anyways, held it together and just kept trudging along. I felt like I wasn't running that fast, so was very pleased to see that I hit the 46 minute mark that was my goal.

I think I can run faster though.
Post race
Warm down:

Felt a little off so I sat down and slammed some coke and a little bit of food. Listened to the music and hung out on the lawn. Was a beautiful day and a great venue, felt nice to just hang out for a little bit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Maybe a little more mental toughness on the run and more olympic specific training on the bike. I've had a hard time balancing hard intervals with all the other HIM training, and I think I would have biked a much better split back in March when the class ended.

But, I'm very happy with the race. 2:27 for a slightly longer olympic finally gets me to a pretty quick pace. Seeing as I started out with a 3:09 or so olympic, clearly I'm improving. This is a fun distance.

Event comments:

I liked this race a lot for the venue and would do it again. I'm drawn to the slightly smaller towns with a medium sized field. The venue, the lake, and the scenery on the bike and run were all pluses. The one negative was the crowded field on the bike, so maybe having one loop for olympic would be a better alternative.
