I have used several BT training programs and have had great success with them but I am starting my first HIM program tomorrow.  Is there an acceptable % of actual vs. planned workouts that still results in a good race?  I am not asking so that I can cut out or skip workouts, I am just curious what others have experienced.

Its easy to get caught in a cycle where you skip workouts, so I try to do most.   I'm probably at around 90% for this year and I do feel like every workout I miss is not the end of the world.  Sometimes your body will tell you it needs rest when you have training scheduled and sometimes its good to heed that.

I often end up skipping one, but I try and not to.  That darn life though.

I don't think there's any way to determine what the optimum % of following a plan is, because everyone is different.  For example, if you have more training experience than I do (a higher fitness level), and we both use the same plan.  Following it to the letter might leave you undertrained, because you could have needed a more demanding program to achieve your potential, while it might leave me under-recovered, because I didn't have the base to handle the full training load.

I personally think the BT plans are light on bike and heavy on swim so I adjust accordingly (for me).  Worked well for my HIM.

That's good to hear. My first workout called for 4750 yards in the pool. I'll keep that in mind as I go forward.
