Total Time = 1h 25m 18s
Overall Rank = 512/1366
Age Group = M40-44
Age Group Rank = 55/121
Pre-race routine:

Woke up early because I could not sleep and had breakfast (bagel w/ butter) Packed up the car and headed to the race site

I had a cereal bar on my way to the site and a powerbar after transition setup. I also continued drinking fluids
Event warmup:

I did a short ride/bike check
got my gear ready for transition set up and found out I forgot my straw for my aero bottle (ugh)
Sept up transition drank (I knew it was going to be a hot one), and mapped out my paths in and out.
Swim
  • 12m 36s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 18s / 100 yards
Comments:

I started on the outside--this allowed me not to bet bumped too much but I think I was way wide the whole swim
What would you do differently?:

swim a tighter course
Transition 1
  • 02m 33s
Comments:

I had trouble with my top (I should know better) it rolled up trying to put it on while I was wet.
What would you do differently?:

Buy a tri suit or wear top for the swim
run all of the transition
Bike
  • 34m 50s
  • 11.5 miles
  • 19.81 mile/hr
Comments:

I did not feel like I was moving but my time shows I was moving OK....I guess I did not push too hard and maybe the heat was in my head too.

Course is a great one and one which can be pushed in the right conditions. I had one really tight turn as we bunched up coming into the park.

It was nice to be in a later wave as I was chasing the waves in front of me the whole ride :)
What would you do differently?:

Stay in the bike mentally- I think my mind drifted a few times
Transition 2
  • 01m 56s
Comments:

long run/walk to my transition
I jumped off and ran some then I slowed to a walk to collect myself
What would you do differently?:

run all of the transition
Run
  • 33m 23s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

The run was tough for me...I just could not keep it going.....
It was a run/walk the whole way!
There was a sprinkler/fire hose at the turna4round which by the time I got there had flooded the course--this soaked my shoes and caused a blister on the way back on my foot.

Ice pack was very useful as it was H-O-T. I stuck this down the back of my shirt.

I also wore my hat and think this helped keep the sun off my head.
What would you do differently?:

believe in myself and my training--I think I need to learn how to push through the pain/heat
Post race
Warm down:

Finished and walked around for a bit. Went back to my car and got some nutrition and drink. Cleaned up transition and left!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat and not have belief in my training
