Total Time = 9h 20m
Overall Rank = 65/77
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

A little stretching, spent some time in the water (not enough).
Swim
  • 33m 47s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 15s / 100 meters
Comments:

Water was a lot colder than I have been practicing in the past year. It took a good 150-200m just to get my breath so I could stick my face in the water and swim normal...Spent the first part breast stroke and swimming with head out of the water.
What would you do differently?:

Better warmup to get use to the water.
Transition 1
  • 04m 18s
Comments:

Took too much time in transition...Had trouble getting the sand off my feet and socks on...Suit came off fine and since this was a mtn bike, put my bike shoes on before taking off on the bike
What would you do differently?:

Just do things a little faster.
Bike
  • 1h 28m 51s
  • 17 miles
  • 11.48 mile/hr
Comments:

Riding a mtn bike is a lot more fun and challenging than pounding out miles on a road bike...Realize I need to drink more on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Not much...I believe I rode at my skill level...I may have been able to go a little faster a times, but I had a good, comfortable ride.
Transition 2
  • 01m 55s
Comments:

Had a little trouble with this transition...Had trouble taking off my camelback and bike gloves...
What would you do differently?:

Just a little faster
Run
  • 1h 05m 48s
  • 10 kms
  • 06m 35s  min/km
Comments:

Even though the course was hard, I enjoyed this part of the race...I certainly was not fast, but I kept running, with only a few sections were I had to walk up a step hill...Ankle is still a little sore from an accident a month ago and running on uneven trails didn't make it any better, but I stuck with it...
What would you do differently?:

Not much...Felt good from start to finish, but did not push myself too hard today...
Post race
Warm down:

Wlak around, talk with friends, etc...Had some water, oranges, bagels, etc.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Combination of things...Ankle slowed me down a little, mtn bike skills limited speed on bike, had a tough time in the beginning on the swim, and my transitions were not the best...This was not the race I ampeaking for and tried to remind myself constantly that this race was a warmup for the 1/2 ironman on April 3rd.

Event comments:

The race organizers were very helpful, although it did seem a little disorganized at the beginning with registration, etc...But I did miss the pre-registration event on Saturday so that was my fault...Even on a very hilly, remote course, they had plenty of people out on the course...Was kind of interesting "dodging" Hummers, Jeeps, ATV's and dirt bikes that shared the trails...This did not pose any problems though. Looking forward doing this event next year and would not mind going back and doing some mtn biking in the area...
