Comments:

I focused on keeping a pace that I knew wasn't going to wear me out. I knew that the wind would play a big part in the bike and I still had another 5k after that. I was within a miunute of the last 5k duathlon that I had done last March.
What would you do differently?:

Wear a pair of leggings.
Transition 1
  • 01m 33s
Comments:

Had a good T1. Ran to the bike, stayed upright getting into my shoes and ran out. Only problem was the helmet, but seeing it's one I haven't used in over a year not bad.

Comments:

Man that was a windy day. Strong wind, 15-17mph, straight out of the North. Just when you thought you would get a tail wind it didn't happen. Gusts to 23mph. Had the clain slip off twice during gear changes. My fault, trying to go smaller in front and shift in the rear at the same time. I wasn't mentally ready for the wind.
Transition 2
  • 02m 21s
Comments:

Took my time. Switched shirts, sat down to get my shoes back on, and then off on the second run of the day.

Comments:

Man did that suck. I could tell that I hadn't been out doing anything the last 2 months. I was running on new orthotics and have only been on them for about 2 weeks of running. I had a bit of right knee pain after the 1st 5k. Really felt it on the 2nd 5k and walked some from it. I was also mentally beat after fighting the wind and chain issues on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing I could do for this run. Limited by time and knee pain.
Post race
Warm down:

Get dressed and get warmed up.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training time.

Event comments:

Given the lack of training time, the SWAT team training the day before, and the bitter wind and cold this was a good race. Not any slower on the runs than the last Du I did. The bike is again a lack of time on the bike and the wind. Can't figure out why I signed up for that the day before after SWAT training other than to say I needed a challenge.
