Started taking this stuff consistently two years ago for knee pain.  (guessing some meniscus damage).  Took a month or so but the pain level reduced.  As time has passed my knee pain is only noticeable on occasion.  After IMKY 2011 I backed off the running and biking quite a bit and stopped taking the GC - for no particular reason.  Noticed my knees started bothering me again even though my volume was very low.

Now after 2 weeks taking my two horse pills per day the knee discomfort becoming less noticeable once again.

So yes I agree - GC Rocks!

About 6 years back I tore my right hip up badly -- doc gave me three options.  First was arthritis medicine, second was cortisone shots, third was hip replacement.  At 39, didn't like any of these alternatives, but had to do something as I was in major pain and taking 4-5 doses of ibuprofen a day.  Some research on line led me to glucosamine.  I've been taking the liquid form (product called Flexicose) since then AND am not taking ANY ibuprofen.  There's some out there that say it does not help.  I'll let them have their opinion and keep taking it daily!

Interestingly enough, I have a bottle of that unused in my desk.  Started using it, but didn't stick it out.

I hope I bought the right stuff. The brand I bought is Schiff's glucosamine mrm? Not chondroitin.

I took this last nite, and my hip is slightly less stiff today, but it could be coincidence from not running the past two days. Should I get the glucosamine chondroitin, or is this ok, you all think?

Not sure what others' experiences have been (reading thru the thread, several mentioned gluc + chon and others didn't clarify) but the research out there that does show it works (obviously not the research showing no effect) specifies glucosamine WITH chondroitin in a specific ratio.

Are you sure it's MRM and not MSM?  There is so much conflicting information out there and I really do not pay too much attention to it.  I use glucosamine with with chondroitin and MSM.  It works for me!

As far as your hip feeling better today...pretty sure that has more to do with taking a couple days off from running.  It takes a while (couple weeks) for the glucosamine to work into your system.  When I first started taking it I was taking at least 1500 mg 3 times per day.  Now I take 1500 2 times per day.

sci - 2011-10-07 11:37 AM Does you joint supplement also have MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane)? If so, MSM is "thought" to have anti-inflammatory properties and works generally fast (if it is going to have an impact). Many supplements that contain G/C also contain MSM.

Hmmmm, maybe I should consider this.  I've been having more than major hip joint issues for the past week and am having a heckuva time even walking.

I bought a bottle of the schiff's brand about 6 months ago but didn't end up sticking with it after I read somewhere it didn't help. Although after reading all the great reviews on this thread I think I will go back and try it again.

Since my teens (mid 70s) I have had knee pain.  Sometimes worse and sometimes better but always there.  Sometimes bad enough that I'd hot pack them and not walk.  I accidentally started the Glucosamine and chondroitin and after a week the knee pain disappeared.  I have accidentally also stopped taking it and the knees get really bad again.  I do not have arthritis and back in the 70s was diagnosed with chondromalacia in both knees so maybe that has something to do with it.  Regardless after decades of knee pain I'm sticking with the GC+C as a cure for now.
