What are good fluid bike trainers under $150. I will be using it to train in the winter when the chicago weather is bad. I would like a more quiet machine, but if it is a bit loud that is ok.

Performance Bike sells a fluid trainer close to the $150 range.  It's the Travel Trac Fluid trainer.  I have the Fluid +, and couldn't recommend it enough.  It is able to add resistance, too.

They are a bit more than $150, as winter is on the way and the prices have gone up.  Still cheaper than a cycleops or KK.  But again, great trainer for the price.

I got a Cycleops mag+ on ebay last year for about $125. Good solid trainer, works fine for me. If you can get the Travel Trac on sale thats a good deal too. That being said, I spent the rest of my trainer budget on good winter cycling clothes because I hate being a hamster. If it's sunny out I ride outside. If it's really cold and windy, I take the mountain bike into the woods instead - some shelter from the wind and less speed so you don't freeze.

I have a house-brand fluid--I think Ascent is the maker. It's fine.

I prefer a mag trainer over a fluid in general, but mine has worked just as designed for years.

What are the pros and cons of a fluid trainer versus a mag trainer? I've been looking at trainers as well and am wondering what direction I should shoot for.
