First, I'm not really sure what a sports medicine doctor is, but I need something.  I'm had foot problems all year.  Podiatrist couldn't fix it and chiro (ART/laser) couldn't fix it either.  I have awfully bad flat feet, but I don't know if my problems are related to something more like muscle weakness, alignments or something else that I don't even know exists.  So, I'm looking for a doc with a endurance sport emphasis that can just fix me.  Any thoughts?  Thanks.

I'd give Greenapple a try.  They've fixed me up 3-4 times and they definitely cater to the endurance athlete crowd.

Well I have had good luck with OrthoCarolina if you are looking for a true sports "doctor".  Might be worth a visit to their foot and ankle institute (I went to the hand institute when I broke my hand last year).  You would get top notch PT there.    http://www.orthocarolina.com/office-locations/content.cfm?id=6950582B-8516-4028-9F8C-E68DEEB15E2F

If you are looking for more pain relief, see if you can get in with Dr Greenapple http://www.drgreenapple.com/

A LOT of the charlotte running community goes to see him (I haven't, but my wife is currently there).  They aren't "doctors" but they are a sports wellness clinic.  Dr Greenapple is VERY involved in the endurance scene (including treating the athletes at Ironman Kona).

Thanks.  I think I'm looking for something like OrthoCarolina.  I tried Greenapple and have also heard the many success stories.  It just didn't seem to be working for me.

You might just need a good physical therapy program and orthocarolina will hook you up with that.  You can call the speciality offices and book an appoint direct with them and tell them you want to see a foot specific doctor (I know I could for a hand specific doctor).

Thanks for the advice on Greenapple.  I developed a sharp pain in the lower front of my left leg.  I took a week off from running but it did not go away.  So 9 days before the Charlotte Thunder Road Marathon, I wasn't sure if I would even be able to run it.  I made an appointment at Greenapple and ended up seeing Dr. Evan Kahn.

4 treatments later, I finished the marathon with zero pain in m lower leg (plenty of pain in other places!).  Ran a 3:08 and Q'd for Boston!  I was pretty impressed because of how bad my leg felt, and how it did not seem to be healing until their treatment.

Great job and congratulations on your BQ.  I had a similar situation in 2006 - I aggravated my achilles on a training run the week before the Chicago marathon.  When I got done, I could barely walk to my car and I hobbled around the rest of the weekend.  I visited Greenapple three times during the week, got on a plane to Chicago and set a PR and BQ.

Maybe the secret to qualifying for Boston is visiting Greenapple before the race!

Congrats again.
