Total Time = 5h 33m 31s
Overall Rank = 122/318
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 20/50
Pre-race routine:

woke @ 4:30 Ate a banana, yogurt, bagel. Found a flat front tire on the bike right before I left, so I went ahead and changed it out.
Event warmup:

didn't do to much of a warm up other than stretch and get my shit together. Went over nutrition and pacing stategy and tried to run the race in my head.
Swim
  • 36m 14s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

they had a prerace meeting that went too long so the horn went off just as I was getting into the water. I dove in and the shock of that cold water took my breath away for a minute. Was that went away I felt like I got into a rythm pretty quickly. This was by far the most comfortable I've felt in the open water. I wasn't sure of myself for this distance, so I took it really easy, probably too easy.
What would you do differently?:

get in the water sooner, and get acclimated to the temp. Know my pacing
Transition 1
  • 02m 3s
Comments:

not too bad, I took a little extra time to make sure I did everything right.
What would you do differently?:

be a little more confident with the moves
Bike
  • 2h 49m 17s
  • 56 miles
  • 19.85 mile/hr
Comments:

I was pretty happy with the bike. I really tried to just take it easy a pace the course and not the competitors. Again my lower back got extremely tight about 45 minutes into it, and was certainly a factor in not only the bike time, but the run as well. Probably the single biggest thing I must fix in the off season.
What would you do differently?:

Not too much really
Transition 2
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

pretty smooth, took some endurolytes and got a drink which I will do on the bike next time.
What would you do differently?:

see above
Run
  • 2h 04m 25s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 30s  min/mile
Comments:

My downfall again. On the flat parts of the course, I felt like I got in a pretty nice pace, but as soon as I hit the hills, my knees started to ache and the quads were sore. The pain I could deal with but the legs just didn't have the strength.
What would you do differently?:

become a stronger runner
Post race
Warm down:

ate a recovery bar, drank some warm gatorade, then jumped in the lake for about 30 minutes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

First half iron, so there were a lot of unknowns.I was happy with everything but the run, and that wasn't so bad or different from the training that I had done.

Event comments:

the had a few glitches, but overall it was a great day. The whole TANYC group that was out there were fantastic. I had a very good time from the training time to the finish line. What an experience.

Good job for your first. That is a beautiful area. That doesn't seem like a large number of participants. Most of the races I do are pretty crowded.
