well, my eBay auction was a huge success, and I made enough to purchase a new wetsuit.  I just called ProMotion and placed the order and also spoke to them about offering a group discount to members of BT.  I'll let you know what I hear.

there is stuff called Aquaseal which you can use to repair tears in your wetsuit. I had a few small nail nicks that I've repaired before. The only problem with this stuff is that the whole tube sets in the off season! This year I am going to whack off all of my nails.

I didn't know it came that way.  Mine was part of a repair kit packaged by Ironman.  It also had some cleaner that seems to work pretty well.  Now I'll be needing more aqua seal so I am interested in what you find.  Let me know, thanks.

This was very informative. I placed a bid on an Orca on ebay that has a small tear at the ankle knowing it can now be repaired.

Talk about a site with good info.

So the next time we get together for dinner, we'll both wear our new wetsuits...Twin Seals! LOL

How do the ProMotion wetsuits compare to the other leading brands?  I saw a comparison chart at the ProMotion website, but their marketing people put that together.

Does it boil down to bouyency, comfort, and surface material that lends itself to being speedy?

Every time I start looking at the different wetsuits, I always end up gravitating towards the most expensive ones out there.

I don't want to buy a suit, and then end up having "wetsuit envy".  I'm guessing this is a common struggle....

I tried to find a good independent review/comparison, but have had no luck so far.

How about some personal testimonials/recomendations about the various wetsuits (I'm probably going to buy a full suit).
(Also, I'm 6'2", 230 if that makes a difference on suit selection).

I have no idea how it compares to other suits, but I'll let you know as soon as mine arrives and I get to test it out. But I'd rather make a $200 mistake than a $400 + mistake. I've read posts on other sites from people who've used this suit and like it, so I figured I'd at least give it a shot.

Thanks Ellen,

I'd appreciate any input you could share.  I seriously considering the ProMotion Power Glide fullsuit.

Hi Ellen

Did you ever hear anything on the discount for BT members? I am getting ready to buy a suit from them but every penny counts

Did you get a full suit or a sleeveless?

Thanks
Jason

I use a ProMotion wetsuit, and have been very happy with it. I have the 2003 Fluid Drive Sleeveless and also bought their Tri Sleeves. Tri Sleeves are a jacket-like top that convert a sleeveless into a full suit. Definitely a good value for the cost, since I essentially got 2 wetsuits for under $250! (I've worn the sleeveless/sleeve combo in 60 and 63-degree ater, and the sleeveless in 77-degrees.)

As for how they compare to other suits, I have been impressed, but then I'm not a great swimmer. Still, my "birthday suit" best in the pool for IM distance is 1:37, while my recent wetsuit race swim was 1:25, so it definitely makes me faster. It seems durable, as I've done 3 races without any visible wear.

The latest issue of Triathlete (I think) had a wetsuit review, but I couldn't find it online. Their take was that it's not as flexible as some of the "big names", but I haven't had any issues with that. I'd say, if you're looking for top-of-the-line, you might check out the Aquaman metalcel, or Orca P-flex, but you'll be paying well over $400. Until you're at that level, the ProMotion suits are just fine.

Oh, and as for a discount, I think they'd be amenable. When I was buying a suit for myself and for my wife, they said they'd do a discount for 3 suits purchased together. (Of course, she went on yto buy a suit on ebay, but that's a different matter). I think if someone gets an organized proposal to them, they'd be able to work something out. Their customer service has been very responsive to my calls/emails in the past.

just bought my first wetsuit last night! It's sleeveless with long legs, a lesser known brand called HydroSeal if I remember right. It's not as flashy as the Quintana Roos but it was only $115 and had pretty much the same features, just no fancy graphics or colors. The shop guy said people have been very happy with them. It has a midcalf leg that came off a lot more easily than the QR that went to the ankle. We also get $50 off a kayak for buying the wetsuit - I may never leave the water!
