...hypothecially speaking, of course.

I can swim with no pain. 

But, however, when I'm reaching up, like taking my shirt off or putting it on, or doing tricep exercises (where the dumbbell could fall on your head), it's painful that I let out a scary yelp.   I can't even dress myself anymore without help

Why the difference in range of motion?  This first appeared about two months ago, hardly noticeable, after a long bike.  It's progressed since then, and spread up to the side of my neck.

I"m trying to contact my massage guy, but my hubby seems to think a massage will make it worse and wants me to see our favorite ortho doc.   I'm thinking pinched nerve or muscle knot?  But wouldn't this have gone away by now?

Medication will take care of a pinched nerve. Does it feel like a knot on/under your shoulder blade? If it does, it is a pinched nerve. Treatment of choice: Steriod (not body builder) pack

Most likely its a rotator cuff then
RICE Anti inflammatories and some band work should do the trick. I would see a MD just to make sure

I too, would say rotator cuff tear... Probably partial. It usually takes quite a bit to cause a full tear, and many people sport a partial and don't even know it. See a dr. RICE. Anti-inflammatories.

nope. and I don't know what impingement is.  It's improving a bit- not hurting as much.  Seems the more I move it, the better it feels.   

My massage guy never returned my callS.  Time to find a new massage guy maybe?
