Swim
Comments: very strange, had leg issues very early, almost cramping....I've never experienced this before. As usual, I had much difficulty swimming straight! kept pulling right. Took me nearly 1/3 of the swim to settle into a decent stroke. I don't think I did well at staying streamlined or having a full stroke. Would have to adjust direction many times...last 300m found myself about 25m to the right of everyone else.... What would you do differently?: Need to do more open water swimming to get used to wetsuit. I'm comfortable, but I believe the arm restrictions are impacting me more than I thought. MUST work on swimming straight and sighting more frequently without slowing up. Transition 1
Comments: I took too long to put my wetsuit under my transition bag...was slow putting shoes on, gels in race top pockets. Need to put helmet on while stepping out of wetsuit. Did a good job running bike to mount and did a running jump on bike, clipped in immediately. What would you do differently?: Helmet on while wetsuit is coming off. put gels on bike via tape? perhaps practice with shoes on pedals like the pros do it? Bike
Comments: I struggled on the false flat into the wind...two laps was fine, crazy, splits were nearly identical! Did a good job staying in aero, out of saddle for some climbs was fine. annoying having to change gears when in aero without bar end shifters! I need a Tri bike!! I was passed by MACCA on his 2nd lap when I was doing my 1st...that was cool! Was passed by 6 to 8 people, no one in my age group. What would you do differently?: More hill work, more hard flat work...just need more time in the saddle Transition 2
Comments: had trouble locating my spot...racked my bike in the wrong place, realized and had to go a few more racks down...i'm sure I burned 30 seconds doing this! without this, I'd have been good. What would you do differently?: KNOW where your stuff is! Run
Comments: Felt very sluggish for first 1 to 2 miles. Did 2nd half about 3 to 4 minutes faster than 1st half! Got my legs just after mile marker 2. I was not passed by anyone, but did plenty of passing throughout the run. What would you do differently?: Need to do more Bike/run bricks to get used to the run off of the bike Post race
Warm down: Just walked around, had 2 or 3 bottles of water, a protein shake thing (wasn't that good and tossed the last 1/4 of it) had a banana...that was about it. What limited your ability to perform faster: Ate too early, 3.25 hours before race time was too long. need more open water wetsuit swimming. Last updated: 2011-10-31 12:00 AM

up at 5, at Greek yogurt, peanut butter bagel and water. race was at 8:15...I ate too early! Had a gel 45 minutes before start time...again, too early.
