Swim
Comments: A really good swim except for the goggle issue again. I stopped twice to fix the goggles so I wouldn't lose my contacts. Easy breathing and stroking(!) Without the stops for goggles I could have been 10 - 15 seconds faster. No flip turns (goggles). What would you do differently?: Change goggles or figure this out!! Transition 1
Comments: I didn't skip anything in transition, but I probably took too long toweling off (cold!) Bike
Comments: OK on the hill, the bathroom break at the top didn't help though. [I just couldn't wait] Good hydration and nutrition. I drank prior to the hill, at the top and just after lap one (figure it was about 5, 15, 26 min for lap 1). About the same on lap two, without a drink at the end. I had half a cliff shot at the top of the hill (just before the bathroom break). I just couldn't finish the thing, but I don't think that hurt me in this short a race. What would you do differently?: I need to start drilling and interval work on training rides instead of just riding!! Go to the bathroom right before the race (especially when they're delayed). Transition 2
Comments: A little slow getting the bike racked (I tried to rack it different than how I had it on originally - not smart). Took a while to lace up the shoes. What would you do differently?: Lock laces showed up yesterday, but I didn't want to add them since I hadn't trained with them. Run
Comments: I felt slow when I started, but got comfortable as I began the downhill on Grant Ave. I only drank at the ~half way point, but that was sufficient. What would you do differently?: I haven't put in any brick workouts yet this season, so it's probably time to start putting these back in. Check the race belt so it doesn't fall apart on the run. Post race
Warm down: Did the kid Try-athlon with Jessica (50 m swim, 1.5 mi ride, .5 mi run). What limited your ability to perform faster: All the stoppages (goggles, bathroom, race belt distraction). I need to apply training techniques to the bike to improve. Event comments: The delayed start didn't help, and loudspeakers in a gym full of talking people doesn't work very well. I was appreciative of the Kid Try-athlon. I would do this race again though as an early season shakeout. Last updated: 2006-05-01 12:00 AM

Woke up at 0530, took it easy and got to the race at about 0630.
It's good to show up early, easy racking and area selection.
Not too much, too cold to swim and wait, I didn't get a good bike in b/c I was talking too much.
