Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5am. Had a powerbar and a Monster Rehab 16oz drink. Drove to the race site and setup my transition area.
Event warmup:

Went thru body marking, setup my transition area, then walked from the swim to bike and bike to run areas. Talked to a few fellow triathlete's in the area.
Swim
  • 17m 33s
  • 547 yards
  • 03m 13s / 100 yards
Comments:

WOW! The waves were unreal. This was a triangle shaped swim. the first 2 legs of the swim were against and across the current and waves. Every breath was greeted with a wave of water. I couldn't find any pace until the final leg. On the 3rd leg I could finally swim.
What would you do differently?:

I should have done some open water swims. Not sure what else I could have done as the waves were just very bad.
Transition 1
  • 03m 34s
Comments:

Long run from the swim out to T1. Was out of breath a little when I got to T1.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, was happy with this.
Bike
  • 46m 12s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 16.14 mile/hr
Comments:

Out and back down 146. Remember those waves in the swim? Well it was due to the strong winds blowing on the bike course. The ride out was directly INTO the wind. Speed suffered for all. At the turn, it was then a tailwind. At 20mph you could hear a pin drop on the bike as the speed equaled the tailwind! I ended up hitting 30mph for a short stint, I felt like a king!
What would you do differently?:

Should have pushed harder into the wind.
Transition 2
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

T2 was fine
Run
  • 27m 53s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt terrible at the start of the run. I hadn't done many bricks so still not used to that feeling. Started out around 9 min/mile so that was fine, but felt like 12 min/mile! Got a little sick to my stomach around mile 2. Not sure if the monster energy drinks arent sitting well when I push hard. Ended fine running down the shoot to the finish line.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder. Should have dug a lot deeper.
Post race
Warm down:

Crossed the line then wanted some water! Found my 2 boys, wife and parents. Walked around a little to find some quiter space away from the speakers. Talked about the race a little then went to find my bike.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My weight! I raced at 210 which is way too heavy for me. I need to be 180. Also I didn't push hard enough. Within 10 minutes after the race I felt fine and the next day I had no soreness or after effects at all.

Event comments:

This is a really good race. I really wish I had done the Olympic distance. I love the area, the venue and the people that put this on did a great job!
