Subject: Olympic Distance Tri's in Mid July....

Looking for an olympic distance tri that is ideally within driving distance of metro Detroit in mid to late July.  I know a lot of people are gonna say Tri for Life, but July 15th is no good (it is the morning after my best friends wedding...done it before, will never do it again).  So July 14, 21, and 22 are OK dates.  July 28 and 29 are possible, but not ideal.

I have a few in mind, but if you have other suggestions, or thoughts on any of these races, let me know:

Epic - He Tried She Tried (new race it seems, where it is a male/female combined age and time category...any female's looking for a race partner, I am married, so not looking for anything more than that;-))

Bluewater (Sarnia, Ontario)

Cincinnati Tri (Cincy, Ohio, I know its not within driving distance, but I have friends there)

Thoughts?  Suggestions?

Darn it!  I thought Tri 4 Life was on Saturday!  I will probably be there as I leave for Spain on  the 24th and race on the 29th.

The one in Cincy looks cool, although I don't know who would get toooo excited to swim in the Ohio River!  It's only about 4.5 hours...I used to live there!

Seems like you could find a partner and dominate the He Tried/She Tried Oly.  Huge plug for Epic if you haven't done one of their events.  I did The Battle of Waterloo and was so impressed with Eva as race director.  Killer, friendly, communication and customer service in general, very personal approach.  Incredibly well stocked aid stations, etc.

You didn't list this date, but the Grand Haven Triathlon has an Olympic on the morning on Sunday, July 8.  I'm not sure what you are defining as "driving distance", though, as that is quite a ways from Birmingham but not as far as Cincy.

Lexington has a sprint and olympic on the 21st.  The field for the olympic is usually small and the swim is only 1000m, but it's a fun race.  We've done it the past 2yrs, but going to Cincy this year.

I second the race in Lexington. Put on by the city and they do a really nice job for a little town race. Swim is very nice in shallow CLEAR water, Bike course is flat and smooth and the run takes you in and out through the town.  Nice after party as well.  You should check it out.

Lexington, MI.  Went up there 2 weeks ago with my brother to swim and get a long ride in.  The water was cold!
