Where can I find a decent... cheap pool in NYC? I just moved back into NYC and got the timberman in a month and a half.

ALSO if anyone has done the timberman... any places to camp?

Best bet for camping for Timberman would be the Gunstock. This is were all the prerace stuff is done. There would also be a shuttle bus from Gunstock to the start of the race. Then a shuttle bus to get back to the Gunstock when finished. Enjoy the race I loved this race. Swim was great. Just one "hard" hill on the bike. Run is not bad but not as flat as you would think.

This article is full of great information for NYC pools:  http://newyork.cbslocal.com/guide/a-guide-to-nyc-public-pools/ ... public pool fee is $150 for the year. I like Flushing Meadows pool in Queens. If in Manhattan the Chelsea center is the cleanest. All NYC outdoor pools are free. Astoria pool has a 50 meter pool that is open for lap swim from 7am to 8:30am and 7pm to dusk. Great facility. http://www.nycgovparks.org/facilities/pools

RiverbankState Park also has a very nice pool that is inexpensive (I think it is $30 per month for a lap swim pass) nysparks.com/parks/93/details.aspx

Good luck.

I was always told Flushing Meadows was impossible to swim at...wait to get in, too many people in the pool, too many non-swimmer swimmers. Is that no correct?

I like Riverbank, aside from the location. $3 drop in, $30 monthly...lap swim times are posted, adhered to, and not crowded...and always long course which makes me super happy.

Borough of Manhattan Community College down in Tribeca used to offer lap swimming. YMCA- unfortunately they may not be listed as "cheap" anymore.

Don't want to hijack your thread, but would you think about taking the train to Coney Island, Rockaway or even Long Beach, Long Island for some open water swimming (when lifeguards are on duty, only!) ?
