I am staying a few days between Galveston and Freeport in Aug. and was wondering about some good bike routes in that area.

I am looking for about 50-60 miles one day and about 25 for the others.

Thanks

You can try the Galveston 70.3 course, which starts at Moody Gardens and then runs southwest along the Seawall boulevard (nice wide shoulder) all the way across San Luis Pass, with a turnaround after 28 miles for 56 total. Flat but windy.

I wondered about that but was not sure if it was a good shoulder or if they closed the road for the race.

Thanks

Frankly I'd turn around at the Pass, or just shortly past it unless they have fixed the road in the last few months.

The far side of the pass was pretty bad before the race.  Better durring but still some nasty road.  Everything out to the pass was glass.

You can get about 45 from Moody out to the pass and back.  There are a few spots with narrow shoulder but they are pretty short.  the worst one is right where the seawall ends (Just because of the traffic in that area).
