Swim
Comments: Good swim overall, maintained single-sided breathing for the entire swim and just went through the motions like in training. Sited fairly well and didn't have much of an issue with getting kicked or grabbed. What would you do differently?: Continue working on speed. Transition 1
Comments: Took a little more time in this transition to get everything ready so when I came in on T2 all I would have to do is put on my running shoes. What would you do differently?: Need to do a better job of drying off my feet, between the water and grass it took some time to put on the socks. Bike
Comments: Felt great getting onto the bike and started out very fast. I was having some issues getting my heart rate down and it stayed in the upper 160s for the entire bike ride. Stayed in aero for most of the ride except when drinking and cornering. This was my fastest bike I've had in a race. What would you do differently?: Use speed-fil bottle next time to minimize the amount of time out of aero. Whenever I drank it was throwing me off my cadence. Transition 2
Comments: Everything went great until I was halfway out of transition and had to run back to take my helmet off. What would you do differently?: Don't forget to take off my helmet Run
Comments: Struggled a bit on the run after hammering it on the bike and it was very hot and sunny. Need to try and get back up to the speeds I was running last year because I averaged 8:30/mile at this race last year on a longer run course. What would you do differently?: Work on speed and conditioning. Post race
Warm down: Ice bags and ice bathes with water. It was hot. What limited your ability to perform faster: Need more swim training, but that's a given, and need more time speed training for the run. Could have been in the top 60 if I had run at the same pace as last year. Event comments: Onurmark puts on a great event and I really enjoy this venue. The time in between swim wave starts seemed a little long but I didn't see a whole lot of people running into each other so I'll say it was good race planning with the number of participates that were registered. Had to wake up extra early to drive in from Clear Lake. Woke up at 3am, made some breakfast and packed it up for the drive and headed out around 4am. Drank water and coffee on the way to race and had a bagel with peanut butter on the ride and a banana in the transition.
Just some light stretching.
