btw...a huge septic pipe burst last night in yonkers (10 miles north of manhattan) and released a ton of sewage into the river.  Curious to see if they still get the swim in...the article is in www.lohud.com..

Hopefully next year there will be no pipes bursts.

I'm just trying to help someone  to register. The 2012 race was sold out in 2 hours.

Very nice of you to post the offer.  I'm volunteering too, otherwise I'd take you up on it.

I swim in the Hudson (and don't even get a tee shirt).  The nice thing about a big tidal estuary (versus the public lakes we swim in) is it cleans itself out pretty quickly.

Also, the bike is along the palisades from N. Jersey up towards Bear Mountain, NY, not exactly the swampy, smoggy part of NJ.  Actually quite nice.

To each there own.

x2....people usually judge NJ by the part they see near the airport when they go right into NYC...that part is a mess but 95% of the state is beautiful or at least as nice as many parts of the country

I'm also volunteering and do not have any plans to do  the 2013 race (simply b/c I'm not far enough along in triathlon to think about an IM by 2013.(maybe I should try to do a marathon first).....and not b/c of the hudson river issue (plan on doing the NYC OLY in 2013).

I am also willing to pass along my 2013 wristband. Anyone interested let me know.

How does the wristband work?  Does one have to be there at the 2012 race?

I will be volunteering too on the bike leg at exit 4.  I think its miles 48 and 100.  You get the wrist band after you shift ends. and with it you can sign up on Sunday for the 2013 race.  The date is tentatively the 8/10/13.  You have to have a wrist band to sign up on Sunday before they open it up to the public.

Point taken...  I live here in NY and can't wait to move out.  I guess i'm a bit sour on this area for many reasons.  With that said, I will be there cheering all the athletes on Saturday so best of luck to all of you competing!!!

I love that area.  It really is very picturesque.  Too bad it doesn't go by West Point.  That would be tempting.

Thats not actually factual.  Yes there was a sewage line break but it did not release a ton of sewage into the Hudson.  They are planning a controlled release or chlorinated sewage to by pass the break to allow crews to fix it.

For those concerned:

As a precautionary measure the Health Department is alerting people who use the waters of the Hudson
River of the potential that there may be sewage effluent in the river from Croton Point Park and points south
during the discharge period. Be advised to curtail your activities, including swimming, boating, kayaking,
windsurfing and bathing in these waters until further notice. Notifications are being made to marinas located on
the Hudson River as well as to affected municipalities
