Subject: Bike travel bag

Hi:

Any recommendation on a bike travel bag? My local store has one, Scicon Compact Atlas, I figure I'd just buy one, it will have earned itself in 6 triathlons compared to renting. But, is it good value?

I'm a bit worried about undoing my bike, in particular the if the rear shifter needs readjustment after. Should pedals be removed? What to do with the chain? how do you keep handle bar and seat post from shuffling around? Other tips?

The Scicon looks like a larger version of the Aerus bike case. That said, I've never had any issues with my Aerus bag. Just be smart about how you pack your bike and it should be okay.

How are you planning to use the bike bag? Just to keep in the car when you drive to races, or are you planning to fly with it? A softshell bag doesn't offer much protection... I would look into a hardshell case if you plan to fly. Also keep in mind that the airlines will do anything and everything to deny your claim if anything happens, and so will the insurance companies if it's not properly protected.
