Subject: how hard is this bike route?

I haven't really ridden in 2 years, and most of it was on fairly flat routes, how hard would this route be?

http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/145187135

(it would be a 2-loop I think) especially considering the elevation gains? (I don't know what they mean...)

its for a triathlon this saturday from the next, its a shortish one, that I can do with the minimal training I have right now, my only worry is the bike, I don't know how hard it is but I can cover the swim/run fine.

 thank you!

You have to set the privacy settings for that route to public.

I give up on viewing the route, but: can you pre-ride the course or part of it this week? Or can you find a comparable route that has a similar profile and try that?

You say you haven't trained much in two years but no clue what that means or how fit you are in general but, two 5%-ish climbs, one of them a bit long will be noticeable IMO, I think. I lose bike fitness quickly if I stay off too long. I suspect you can do the distance and finish, probably not a fast or graceful as you might like though. Is it really just an almost 5 mile bike split? If that is true then just suck it up and do it-then go back next year trained and ready to crush it

depending on how much you weigh this route looks like it can be really tough if you haven't trained much in a couple years. that of incline over a steady length for an untrained person can really suck. the ride back will be real nice though.

My ''training''.

I've been running 4-5 times a week, around 20mpw, most of this highish intensity, I will also go to a gym and climb stairs for around 30minutes once in a while, lifting weights 3-4 times a week, playing pickup basketball 2-3 times a week, often commuting on my bike for errands nearby, but nothing else, how far I go I have no idea, but its never too far. All this I do cause I enjoy it,  as y'all can see its nothing structured.

Have't swum in a while but less than a year ago I won a bet by beating a friend over 1km, I'll ask him if he remembers our times.

I weight a bit under 180lbs, am 6'1, and 19years old.

I'll check if there are still any spots available, if so, I will in fact suck it up.

It's a real slope, but would not be considered a particularly hard or nasty hill for most intermediate and up riders. Most recreational riders would be able to ride this slope with a decent effort.

So it's two loops, just under 5 miles, you're 19 year old, assuming you're on a road bike, uh....you'll be fine.  If you really hammer up those hills you might feel it on the run but this seems like a pretty short race.

What's the swim and run distance?

Oh yeah, you're 19....you'll bei fine.

That looks similar to the hill in one of my races this summer.  Everyone had me terrified but I motored up it just fine.  FWIW, I was running the equivalent of a 53-39/23-11 and I am a 39 yr old woman on a TT bike with 20 more lbs to lose.  You'll be fine.

Personally, This looks like a pretty easy ride to me, you basically have a three mile descent to recover for the run, which is pretty awesome.

heck yeah the hill may suck a bit at the beginning a bit but man once you get to the top the next 3 miles are pure gold

haha ok, thanks for the encouragement!

I will be on a road bike.

the swim is 600meters in a pool and the run is 5k on trails, the bike is advertised as 10k, so maybe I missed some part of the route when I mapped it.
