Pre-race routine:

Event warmup:

Swim warm-up.
Swim

  • 2112 yards

Comments:

Great start. You stand in water about chest-deep before the start. Had time to get acclimated. Nice clean sandy surface at the start and finish.
What would you do differently?:

For me, I need to practice in a wetsuit more often.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Nice set-up. Definitely had the athletes in mind with the transition set-up. Straight in and out. T1 is a nice little jog from the swim. This is good for me. It gives me time to get my legs back before getting on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Practice running out of the water.
Bike
  • 00m
  • 56.3 miles
  • 0.00 mile/hr
Comments:

I like the variety on the course. Spent lots of time out of the saddle pushing up the rollers. Felt good and fun at the time.
What would you do differently?:

Ease off the rollers and save more for the run.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Good. Straight in and out.
What would you do differently?:

Put on socks.
Run
  • 00m
  • 13.1 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

Good aid stations. Plenty to eat, gels, gatorade, pickle juice etc. By time I started the run the sun was shining bright, so, the shaded course was very nice. I also like the down and back because I get to see the race leaders (they are finishing just as I start). I took in plenty of pickle juice and never cramped.
What would you do differently?:

Adjust my training (more bricks) and go a little easier on the bike course and first half of the run. Last two miles, although flat, were painful.
Post race
Warm down:

Normal.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need more practice and training.

Event comments:

Great post-race. Provided burgers for participants and spectators. Had a big tent with tables and chairs, plenty for both participants and spectators. Plenty of port-a-cans. The finisher's medals are first class.

Course: Great bike course. The first 25+ miles is relatively flat. First big hill is at about 30 miles followed by a super fast 4 miles straight downhill with tailwind. I recovered on this 4 mile stretch with a 25 mph average. Another steep hill then plenty of rollers. Last few miles were flat and allowed some recovery before the run.
