Subject: RE: Training for early spring HIM thread? I am alive!!! Just want to thank everyone for all the encouragement and advice! It was definitely an incredible journey!
It was a long day. I finished just under 6:50. I do not have an official race time as my chip stopped working after T2. I emailed Ironman about that. Hopefully at least the pictures give me a race time.
My swim was 35 minutes and 4th in division so I was happy, especially since I found myself off course twice. Then the entire field passed me on the bike. The run was brutally hot and I am incredibly thankful for the people spraying us down with hoses and the volunteers happily handing me ice. It was 3 loops and it might be good they didn't get my splits because the run deteriorated into a run/walk. The temp was in the 90's so I made sure to drink and stay safe. The bike was about 3:35 and the run somewhere under 2:30 which is shocking for me because I did my first HM this year in 2:15.
I am super sore everywhere today and in total disbelief that I did all that. It went by so fast. The run was so tough in that heat but I didn't really think about it and kept going.
I think what helped is my focus on hydration and salt. I couldn't eat during the run so I took in liquid calories with the ironman perform. I still couldn't eat for hours afterwards besides managing to choke down a banana over the course of a half hour. I sprayed on sunscreen in T1 and T2 and didn't even get burnt, although that could have been the salt deposits on my skin protecting me from the sun
