Couldn't agree more.  The kickboard is evil and there is no need for it.  For kick drills to work your leg strength use a streamlined position on your back with zoomers.  For balance drills that use the kick for propulsion, try the side kick drills either face down, face up, or switching.  In TI terminology these are called lead-hand sweet spot (face up), lead hand fish (face down), and zipper switch (switching sides).

CindyK - 2006-06-21 9:35 PM I just finished a triathlon swim seminar....our coach told us to ditch the kickboard entirely and do kicks on our sides with one arm extended. His reasoning was that the kickboard just reinforces bad body balance habits.

Gosh Karen, thank the lord ur instructor told you to use shoulders and not hips when doing stokes. If I had to use my hips to move my arms, I might give up. Totally "messing" with ya.
