Pre-race routine:

Got up at 400. Really looking forward to race. I am almost fully healed from achilles and knee. Ate some bars, apples, oranges and pop tart. Missed exit and had to get off go down access road, got pulled over by police, no ticket only warning. Cop warned me about 3009 and told me they patrol that road frequently.
Event warmup:

Got to race. Registered. Man it was humid. I am talking Houston humid.
I racked bike set up shoes, helmut, drink, towel. I put glasses back in pack it was misty. Went down to pre race meeting. As usual Brian was lecturing about safety, but he is right, I always feel safe during his events. Went down in cave for timed start.

Comments:

The trail was very rough. I just kept thinking it will be over soon. I was happy with my achilles and knee. NO PAIN.
What would you do differently?:

Pushed a little harder on the flat areas. Maybe trail shoes. The rocks tore my road shoes up.

What would you do differently?:

I should have pushed harder

Comments:

Man I was tired. I saw the lady in the elf suit and Don. We cheered each other on. It was tough. Everyone was smiling and cheering each other. Before I knew it I was at the end.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Great after race. Met Don and many other race participants. Good amount of Houston folks at this race. Had grapes, tea. The sausage wraps were excellent. A little disappointed in my 5th place finish. But I did the best I could, some great triathletes in my AG.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Trail run, too worried about getting hurt.

Event comments:

Redemption does a great job. I compete in at least three of their races each year.

Overall: 21/53
Performance: Good
Course: Started in Cave. Check out the pictures on Facebook. It is just the coolest thing. I was having a great time. Breathing hard. Then the course became more of a trail run and it was still twilight. I was worried about twisting an ankle. My legs felt good. Leave it to Brian, he puts this huge hill right in the middle. It was harder for me going down. I could feel it in my knees. I just slowed down and kept a good cadence. Going back up most people were walking. I slowed but kept up a jog. I thought I finished well.

Great report.  It was a good race but I agree it was more of a trail run than a true duathlon run.
