I am a pretty happy guy with living off the north shore bike path and hit that and the Des Plaines trail up very regularly.  However, about to pull the trigger on a longer trail run and looking for suggestions to any sweet hillier, gnarly type of trails in the area.  Hit up Millenium trail in Mundelein and has some potential but looking for other things about 30-40 mins from Libertyville.  Any suggestions?

Check these folk out.  They are nucking futs.

We are a group of ultra and trail running friends that want to share our love of the trails and distance running. This g...roup is about FUN and we welcome runners of all levels. M.U.D.D runs Veterans Acres/Sternes Woods in Crystal Lake, IL weekly and occasionally travel to other trail locations.

Veterans Acres and Sternes Woods park are hilly single track through the woods.  FUN trails! We run loops so it's easy to stop by the car to refuel and get water. Training on these trails will get you ready for any trail race.

Disclaimer: all levels r welcome, but if u start running with us, be cautious because miles will become addictive & shorter distance runners just may find themselves soon running a 50K, 50 & 100+ miles before u know it! It all starts with showing up to just one MUDD run!
