Subject: Anyone using Vision metron bar end shifters?
Anyone using Vision metron bar end shifters?  I've been watching eBay for a bike upgrade and saw a 2012 Felt B12 with these shifters.  I watched a YouTube video on them and I'm not sold on them but was wondering if anyone has good things to say about them for actual usage.

I have them on my Felt DA, it takes a bit to get used to them but after that I really like them. I'm not completely sold on them though. I have a set of dura ace that I can always swap out and sell the metrons. When I bought my DA I was neutral on the shifters simply because I have the dura ace in a box at home. The metrons were definitly not a make or break.

My wife had them on her Felt DA, but we swapped them out after only a handful of rides. Shifting up is no issue, but shifting down is very awkward. She's now using Zipp R2C instead, much, much nice.

That was my take on the UT video I saw.  I see that the 2011 B12 model has SRAM R2C shifters, might look more at that setup.

.... or just buy the bike you want and change out the shifters... you're not taking that much money...

I've been using them for about 6 months on my B12 and love them.  It did take a few rides to get used to them, but after that I would say I like them better than regular bar end shifters.  The only complaint is that there is not a lot of grip on the button shifter and when my hands are sweaty, it can sometimes be a little difficult to down shift.  You just learn to apply more pressure, but it would be nice if there was more grip to it.

Don't do it, IMO very poor design and quality control. Search for my gear review here for more details. 3 pairs in under a year, all failed for the same exact reason. Once during my A race for the year leaving me no way to change gears during a very hilly race.

I have them on my DA and love them.  I set them up so my middle finger is at the end of my bars.  I wrap my pointer finger around the front.  Downshifts are done with a "pull the trigger" movement, upshifts with middle and ring finger.  My hands never have to move.  I've been using them for a year and only had one problem, the set screw on the collar was too tight and you lose the ability to shift.  Properly tighten that screw, and check it on occasion, and I don't think you'll have a problem.  I suspect that might have been the problem the other poster was having.  I can't imagine ever going back to regular bar end shifters!
