Just found out that Findlay's Flag City Multisport will be run under Nomad Multisport this year and will be held June 8, 2013. Nomadmultisport.com. It will be the same as in the past, featuring a sprint and olympic tri/du, as well as a 5k run/walk.

I am signed up for WhiteStar to be my first ever triathlon, but I am thinking I might do Flag City, too.  That would make this my first triathlon.

Is this a good triathlon to be my first?  Is there a site I can get more info about the race?  Is this going to be cold enough for a wetsuit? Too cold to go without?

I don't own a wetsuit so that is my primary concern...

Thanks,

Jim

Cant comment on Flag city but I will put my 2 cents in on white star. I did white star last year and it was a Blast! Might be partial to it since it is my home town and the bike portion goes by my house. But I did heard great feedback from last years event and  The swim is excellent! Very clear clean water. I didnt use a wetsuit last year and was ok but a few other did use one.

Last year had just over 200 people and I hope to see more this year!

This is a good well run race and would be a good race for your first. It is an OWS in the Reservoir counterclockwise along the shore which has you starting by jumping off a dock to start the swim, 1 lap for sprint, and 2 laps for the Olympic. They have plenty of safety crew and kayakers in the water as well. It has always been cold enough to wear a wet suit since I have been doing it the last 4  years. However there are those who go with out a wetsuit so it would be tolerable without. The bike is a pretty much flat course out and back, with the run being flat as well with the exception you have to run up the side of the reservoir to run the majority of it on top on stone/gravel. There is also 2 transition areas to deal with as well, so just plan out what all you will need for the bike for T1 and what all you need for the run at T2. If  you go to the site nomadmultisport, there are maps for the transition areas as well as the map for the bike and run.

If you have any other questions or concerns feel free to ask or pm me.

Out of curiosity, is there wet suit rental anywhere in the Toledo/Findlay/BG area?  I saw online Bonsai rents them and ships all over, but I am not sure if I should pay the $50 or just go without and HTFU.

Advice appreciated! Pay the cash or Hurry The Frack Up?

Wetsuitrental.com is $65. Bonsai is $50

I think I am just going to suck it up and go without a wetsuit. I am not sure I'll do this on, but if I do, it'll be sans wetsuit.

Water is going to be cold. From what I could find on an ohio fishing website the water temp was estimated @ 58 +/- degrees

Thanks! Yep, that was me...I was able to run one guy down on the run, but the two others were just too far ahead, lol. I had a good day, I was able to PR the course as well as set PR for the swim and run!

Great Job to you as well, looks like you did really well for your first tri! I hope it was a good experience for you and you have many more!

I am glad you had a great time, Jim. I will not be doing White Star next month although I thought about it. It is the weekend after I am doing the Muncie 70.3 and not sure I will feel up for it yet.

Have any of you done White Star? Do you recommend? I'm looking for a July race and have narrowed it down to Ceaser Creek, white star and tri-Indy that is early August! Is there camping available at white star?

I did white star last year and am doing it again this year with my wife. I had a blast last year! course is flat and fast. Camping is available right across the street and the campgrounds.
Info here: http://www.lovemyparks.com/parks/white_star_park

There is also an open water swim clinic this friday June 14th at 6pm if anyone is interested.
