Pre-race routine:

We (my wife daughter and I), got there early and I began to get ready (wetsuit on etc...). Then I went down to the lake to do a little jitter knock off.
Event warmup:

I have had problems in the swim (a few times), I hyperventilate because the water freaks me out! I'm not sure what to make of it, but I try swimming so I hopefully can overcome my fears.
  • 39m 47s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 53s / 100 yards

OK, so apparently nothing had changed! I quickly got into the water and started to freak out. In fact, I had to wait until almost every single participant was well out of my way (past me in the water), until I could start to work on my problem.
After I worked out my issues (probably took another 10 minutes, maybe a little less, I began to swim. I'm actually a strong swimmer. My strongest leg. Quickly i put the hammer down and started to catch and pass a lot of people. I passed a lot of swimmers. Once I overcame my fear and started passing people, I began to build on my confidence. The more confidence, the stronger my swim was.
had I not had my issues and were able to start out with the lead guys, I probably could have been near the front (maybe first 25 guys). As it was, I was happy to have not flagged down a lifeguard and got pulled out.
Oh, one more thing! When I came out of the water in lap one (yes, out of the water, around the timing chip sensor), I ran into my fan club (my wife and daughter) cheering me on. It was awesome.
My daughter said "Go Dad!" and I stopped and gave her a big wet kiss! The whole group of people laughed, it was pretty cute.
What would you do differently?:

If I was smart, I would have stayed away from the pool and did some open water swimming in the lake about 20 minutes from my house. This is where I need more practice.

Transition 1
  • 06m 28s

I'm not trying to win this thing, especially after a poor swim start. I was told by a friend at the cycle shop to just enjoy the experience, and that is what I intended to do. So, 6:28, was plenty of time to get undress, get redressed, get my bike and head out!
What would you do differently?:

Not a damn thing! I got to talk with my fans, I got to sit down and put my shoes on, it was great.
  • 3h 10m 8s
  • 56 miles
  • 17.67 mile/hr

The bike was great! flat, hot and friendly! all the participants seems to be having fun and in the sun. I really enjoyed this race!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. I had fun, and that's what counts.
Transition 2
  • 08m 33s

My parents had shown up at this point and we all knew that I possibly could have ended the race here because of my knee (which was bothering me). I got into my running gear and was willing to at least see how it went. Maybe I could walk it, maybe not?
What would you do differently?:

  • 3h 07m 9s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 14m 17s  min/mile

The only annoying thing here was (well there were 2 annoying things), that the course went right along the walls of some exclusive clubs and although beautifully kept, the sidewalk was windy and at an angle. This made me knee very agitated. To combat this I ran in the street, along the sidewalks. The other annoying this was the distance was totally wrong, it was 14 miles for the half and everyone was complaining. This was due to the peoples 910x style watches. Annoying yes, but only because we were tired.
What would you do differently?:

Post race
Warm down:

Food! OK, a little stretching , but mainly, Food!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My swimming problems and my knee.

Event comments:

I can say this, Hits triathlon Company or series, is great. Fully catered, with music, bathroom, lots of room at transition, ...everything was great! great staff too, very friendly. I'd go with them again.
