I'm 52 and have never had hip pain until just a few weeks ago noticing it about 7 miles into a run.  It pretty much goes away with a couple days rest but flares up with speed runs.  If it were arthritis would it be a constant pain?  I feel it where you would plant your thumb in your glute just behind your hip joint.  Sort of feels "hot".  thanks.

Sounds muscular to me, not joint. Is your form starting to fall apart soon before you feel the pain? That's a signal for me to pay closer attention to my form - I have inadvertently slowed my cadence and started crashing into the ground. Normally I can pull it back together and finish my workout without any further issues.

I think you just need to relax your muscle and don't harsh yourself to run for how many miles. Maybe you should try it slowly to avoid having problems. You can also visit your doctor for better results and awareness.

It might not hurt to see a chiropractor, preferably one that specializes in ART.  I found that it helped with my hip pain a lot, though ultimately rest was what worked the best for me.
