Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Cup of Coffee/ Jalepeno Bagel/ half a bananna/ Arived Early/ Checked bike.
Event warmup:

Minimal stretching/ Chi Gung Circulation Exercises
Swim
  • 28m 22s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 53s / 100 meters
Comments:

All things considered (lack of training, surplus of drinking and smoking) I felt pretty good on the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Train more
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Put back wheel on cock-eyed in the morning, rubbing on frame.

Hard to get in and out of toe pedals.
What would you do differently?:

Put wheel on straight!!!! Get pedal bindings with real bike shoes.
Bike
  • 1h 29m 30s
  • 24.8 miles
  • 16.63 mile/hr
Comments:

I had to stop after 50 meters to fix my wheel. I adjusted it some, but not all of the way. It rubbed on the frame the whole way. That will NEVER happen to me again!!!

However, I did try hard. I found a pace I could keep.
What would you do differently?:

Train more (only one ride in the past 4 months). Learn how bikes work so I put it together right next time...DUH!!!!
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

I had my rinning shoes on already (toe pedals).
What would you do differently?:

Watch out where I'm going. I almost ran someone down.
Run
  • 1h 22m 10s
  • 6.2 kms
  • 13m 15s  min/km
Comments:

I DIED!!! As soon as I got off the bike I was like "Oh no, my legs are shot." All in all, I'm just happy I made it. I didn't stop. I found a pace (snail's) and kept it. I WAS IN PAIN! Calves cramped; limped over finsh line.
What would you do differently?:

Train more (I went on maybe 4-5 runs/jogs, between 1 mile to 5 miles in length). Party less.
Post race
Warm down:

Hugged my relatives, walked around.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Alcohol, cigarettes, lack of training.

Event comments:

I needed inspiration to train, and hopefully this was it.

Besides my pain, it was a beautiful perfect day. The event was well managed. The beach was a great place to tri.

I did Breath of Life, too!!! Don't worry, my race wasn't any better. I ended up 310/379, 3h 07 min. I thought it was an okay time for me, until I saw how much better everyone else did. I guess we should just be happy that we finished. How many people in the world can say that they have done an olympic distance tri? Not many.

the irony that you did not do well in a race named "Breath of Life" because of cigarettes is probably not lost on any of us. but now you've caught the tri bug so you're gonna give 'em up, right? We'll even hold your hand thru it, promise!

Congrats on completing your first race, no matter how ugly
