Shimano Ultegra 12-30 cassette

New user  126  |  Subject: Shimano Ultegra 12-30 cassetteHas anyone swapped out a Shimano 11-28 cassette for a 12-30? I was wondering if you can notice the difference in 2 extra teeth in that low gear. I need to replace that cassette anyway and was thinking about going this route for a hilly race instead of chaining to a compact crank. I want to retain the bigger crank for flats and downhill but need a little more spin up hills. |

Champion 10668   Tacoma, Washington | Subject: RE: Shimano Ultegra 12-30 cassette Make sure your rear derailleur can handle that 30T cog (most road derailleurs with a short cage can only go up to 28) and the total capacity. A standard front of 53/39 and a 12/30 on the back will max out any road derailleur with a total range of 32T. |

From what I'm reading it has been done on the setup I have without even adding a link to the chain, just some B screw adjustments. I am wondering how much impact this has, if it is actually noticeable. |

Pro 5892 , New Hampshire | Subject: RE: Shimano Ultegra 12-30 cassette I really dislike wide spaced cassettes like that... keep in mind that if you expand the gearing between the top end and the bottom end, you also lose lots of gears in the middle... I.e., you'll struggle to find the right gear. You're much better off going with a compact crank and tighter spaced cassette... |
