Total Time = 1h 43m 47s
Overall Rank = 175/232
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Had a strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, almond butter and cranberry juice smoothie on the way to the race. Had two bottle of water or so and then a few sips right before starting.
Event warmup:

Swam for about 10min before starting.
Swim
  • 14m 11s
  • 440 yards
  • 03m 13s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim went pretty well. Felt really calm through the whole thing really wish I could have been better about sighting more as I kept getting of course. Had a decent run back to transition after the swim as well.
What would you do differently?:

Practice sighting more so I can stay on course. Push a little harder I'm pretty sure I could have done this faster.
Transition 1
  • 03m 22s
Comments:

Pretty easy T1 but my bike gloves slowed me down a bit. Overall I wish I was faster.
What would you do differently?:

Practice transitions more.
Bike
  • 46m 4s
  • 11.2 miles
  • 14.37 mile/hr
Comments:

Took off good but damn my legs were tired from the beginning. Not sure why but I had a rough time. Still pretty happy with my time, just wish my legs would have felt better. My stomach started bothering me 3/4 of the way in so I stopped eating jellybeans and drinking. Probably drank too much too soon who knows. Easy dismount, walk to transition.
What would you do differently?:

Drink less at the beginning of the ride. Ride more at race pace before the race. Just bike more!
Transition 2
  • 01m 39s
Comments:

Really uneventful just got my heels suck in my running shoes a bit besides that went pretty good.
Run
  • 38m 33s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 12m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

Overall my time wasn't that horrible considering my best 5k this year is 35min or so. Had to walk a lot more than I would have liked. The course was on the trails which since I'm not 100% comfortable running on trails felt like another thing to have to deal with being nervous about tripping on roots. It was nice to be on the trails and in the shade though.
What would you do differently?:

Run more especially on trails.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around a bit, stretched a tiny bit, drank a bunch of water, ate a few oranges, a slice of pizza and then out for breakfast.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Mentally but also pushing myself more in training I think.

Event comments:

Great race, TRIMOM always does a good job, wish they had a few copies of the race results printed post race. Really like this event but it was my first tri so not a lot to compare to.

At mile ten I heard a noise like I had gotten paper in my spokes or something. I looked but saw nothing but a few seconds later my rear tire blows out.

Are these races too close together to give me any sort of recovery? Will I be spent and unhappy racing back to back weekends and then again two weeks after that?

When I told my husband that I planned to work toward completing a sprint triathlon, he smiled and was supportive, but a bit disbelieving.

The challenge? The accomplishment? I want to do this because it is an opportunity to live life. The event is an indoor sprint triathlon. I get to experience the challenge on a safer scale.

This plan is designed to make you go faster. 3 workouts per week in each sport, 2 days of strength training and core work. The maximum volume is around 10 hours toward the end of the 12 weeks.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

Since your “A” race is your marathon, which you stated in your question, this should be your main focus. I encourage you to taper a bit for the sprint distance triathlon.

Since I didn't have much time and since it's a super sprint, am I OK just go to at the training relatively hard through Thursday or even Friday?
