  • 1640 yards

Comments:

I hope the course was a bit long, I felt like I gave a good effort but my pace was not that great. The aqua bike group is pretty small and we went last. We bunched up pretty tight at the start, I had a female to my right and when the horn went off she took off like a rocket so I got on her feet for a bit. Not sure where she went but very quickly I started catching people from previous waves. I picked a landmark up on the ridge so I sighted off that till I got to the first buoy. I thought that was pretty smart since we were swimming into the sun on the way out. then to the next, that's where I got kicked in the face. I was able to save my goggles and get set again. then back to shore. The water was warm but not to uncomfortable. So this is where the race was won for me, The guy that came in second was 3 min. slower in the water but two min. faster on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

I know I have more speed than that just need more conditioning in the pool
Transition 1
  • 00m 44s
Comments:

pretty smooth. a little hill out of T1 so take that into consideration.
Bike
  • 1h 07m 41s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 22.22 mile/hr
Comments:

I know most of these roads so I felt at home. I just hammered away knowing I didn't need to save anything for a run. They were not ready for me at the finish line the announcer came over and got my name then announced first place winner, kinda a let down.
What would you do differently?:

I should have brought shoes because we still had to rack our bikes exit T2 and run to the finish, so I did it barefooted.
Post race
Warm down:

hung out with my Dad and Joyce, Rosie and Jack

What limited your ability to perform faster:

more time in the pool

Event comments:

I did the aqua bike because I have not been able to run since my accident. Although my knee feels fine on the bike I have not been able to put in the run volume I need to race. Hopefully August>

In addition to writing your race number on each upper arm, they also wrote your age on your calf. This allowed me to see who was passing me by in the bike section of this race.

Knowing where the fluids are, how they will fit on your bike, how much to reach for, and when to reach for it should be understood prior to ever setting foot on the course.

One year ago I was 90 pounds heavier and dreaming of being able to walk without a wobble. I never considered doing a triathlon.

Pain shows us how strong we are. After last weekend I am convinced of this. After 151 training hours of swimming, biking, and running, I flew to Sonoma County, California for the race.
